11 Timeless Lessons for Reading More

Reading is important for our mental development and growth. But what happens when we don’t make time for reading in our lives?

1. Make time for reading:

It’s important to set aside some time each day or week for reading.

Whether it’s 20 minutes before bedtime, during your lunch break, or first thing in the morning, find a slot in your schedule that you can stick to.

2. Build Environment:

Find a comfortable place to read, where you won’t be interrupted, and where you can focus.

This might mean investing in a comfortable armchair, enabling airplane mode, or making sure your bedside table is clear of clutter.

3. Find material that interests you:

In order to keep your motivation high, it’s crucial to find reading material that interests you.

This could be anything from novels and magazines to blogs and articles. As long as you’re engaged with the material, you’re more likely to keep reading.

4. Take breaks

If you find yourself struggling to focus, take a break! Get up and stretch your legs, grab a snack, or step away from the material for a few minutes.

This will help refresh your mind and make it easier to continue reading.

5. Create a reading list

Keep a list of books you want to read, so you always have something to look forward to. I use GoodReads to track my reading goals and find new books to read.

6. Build a Habit

Make reading a daily or weekly habit, and stick to it. The more you read, the easier it will become. Soon enough, you’ll be looking forward to your reading time!

I’d recommend checking out Atomic Habits by James Clear if you’re looking to build better habits in all areas of your life.

7. Join a book club

If you need some accountability, consider joining a book club. This way, you’ll be expected to read a certain amount each month, and you’ll have someone to discuss the material with.

8. Carry a book with you everywhere

This is my favorite technique for reading more. I always have a book or my Kindle with me so that I can read at any moment…

Whenever I have a spare minute, instead of checking my phone, I read. This has helped me read more books in the past year than ever before.

9. Feel free to drop

If you’re struggling to find time to read, or don’t enjoy it, feel free to drop the habit. There’s no need to force yourself to read if you’re not enjoying it.

There are plenty of other activities that can benefit your mental development and growth.

10. Reward yourself:

When you finish reading a book, reward yourself with something fun! This could be anything from a new book to a night out with friends.

Whatever you enjoy, treat yourself to something special. This will help keep you motivated to read more.

11. Get an e-reader:

E-readers are a great way to make reading more convenient. You can carry thousands of books with you wherever you go.

Not only that, You can get instant access to the new books. Whenever I get a book recommendation, I instantly get my book loaded on my Kindle device.
